Bill was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 1970 NFL Draft and also played for the Detroit Lions. He was signed to the Fire after it lost starting quarterback Virgil Carter to a season ending hand injury. Bill finished the season playing six games for the Fire and starting four of them. Bill was also an emergency punter and punted 4 times against Florida in game 15. He played college football at Florida State.
